Eighth Report on the Strategic Planning Process

Strategic Initiative Three

Enhance and expand MU's educational, economic, health, and social outreach to all Missourians, the nation, and the world.

  • Develop and begin implementing by November 2004 a plan to provide incentives for faculty, staff, and students to increase both basic and applied research, and the necessary funding to support that research. Become a model for all public-service universities by focusing intellectual resources on programs that stimulate state and regional growth and act as economic engines for the state.   • Develop and begin implementing by December 2004 a plan that will enhance research-based technology transfer and support the development of new high technology businesses in Missouri . Include clear internal policies and protocols, incentives, and support for intellectual property protection, licensing, and commercialization under the auspices of the institution. By March 2005 have identified the funding and completed the design for an incubator facility to serve the University and the community. (Vice Provost for Research)
  • MU will develop by February 2005 a specific strategic plan for strengthening and enhancing the focus of its involvement in global affairs. This initiative will build on existing MU excellence in international programs in order to develop strategic partnerships with educational institutions, agencies, and private sector entities abroad. Advisory committees will be established for all programs, including Extension, to guide the development and implementation of specific programs and projects.
